I’m still alive today thanks to Meijer’s sushi

Uncategorized

Hi, this is Shafu. I am Japanese but now live in the U.S.
I love sushi. Before coming to here, I went to cheap sushi restaurants once a week. I did know that people in America do not eat row fish. The place where my company ordered me to move (where I live now) is far from sea.

A month before I left Japan, I went to sushi restaurants every other day. That’s how much I like sushi.

So, life without sushi is very tough for me. Please Imagine your life without burger, pizza, chicken tenders or diet coke.

I miss sushi and other kind of Japanese food. I went to local grocery. It offers some sushi rolls. I like sushi rolls. But those are not Japanese sushi. I never had sushi with spicy sauce. (Don’t take offence, I like these as Americanized sushi)

I also found some instant noodles of Japanese companies such as Nisshin. But taste was bit different I knew…

It made me homesick a lot. I cried in my bed.

But I was saved. Thank you, Meijer.

Meijer sells sushi. Not only sushi rolls, but also Japanese style one which a slice of raw fish is topped on rice. The fish is salmon and tuna. These are the most popular sushi in Japan (I think so). Meijer offers 10 sushi for 15 dollars. It is expensive compared with cheap sushi restaurants in Japan. (If I eat 10 sushi at those restaurants, it costs about 5 dollars)

But I bought it without hesitation. I thought the vinegar was bit strong, but it was still tasty for sushi-hungry Japanese.

Today I am still alive in a rural beautiful place without any Asian grocery stores or Japanese restaurants. Thank you, Meijer.
